Scholarships and prizes

We support postgraduate research students and postdoctoral researchers associated with South Australia’s public universities through the provision of scholarships, grants and awards for research aligned with the Foundation’s nominated areas of focus.

Lumley Prize

The Lumley Prize recognises the achievements of early career post-doctoral researchers currently employed by Flinders University or Adelaide University, whose research aligns with up to three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is able to be demonstrated as contributing to social, cultural, economic and/or environmental equity in the Asia-Pacific region. 

There are four Lumley Prize awards, totalling $50,000 in value, that will be granted to successful applicants across Adelaide University and Flinders University on a merit basis, to be distributed as follows:

  • 2x winners receiving $15,000 each
  • 2x runners-up receiving $10,000 each

This is a competitive prize awarded on the basis of the impact of past and current research.

Eligibility criteria applies, with applications being administered by Flinders University and Adelaide University.  Your affiliate university can provide you with access to the internal Prize details and application process.

Lumley Top-Up Scholarships

The Lumley Top-up Scholarships Program is an annual program that supports students undertaking their Doctor of Philosophy in any field of research, that aligns with up to three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has the potential to contribute to social, cultural, economic and/or environmental equity in the Asia-Pacific region. 

There are five Scholarships granted each year to successful applicants across Adelaide University and Flinders University on a merit basis, to support reasonable costs associated with the recipient’s capacity to undertake their research and successfully complete their PhD. 

Each successful scholarship recipient will receive $18,000 per year from the year of application for up to 3.5 years or the completion of their candidature, whichever date comes first.

Eligibility criteria applies, with applications being administered by Flinders University and Adelaide University.
